In The Studio With Suite JSG

One thing I truly love about what I do as a fashion and event blogger is meeting new people who are given the opportunity to realize their dream. I met one-half of this dynamic team about 10 years ago when he was simply showing off his sketch book of artistic visions to the patrons. I used to tell him he had quite a hidden talent that I hoped would take him far one day. Well I'm proud to say that day has come. I first recognized JR Dumarce at the Fashion For a New Life 3 event, but just couldn't place his face. Waiting for him outside the photography studio, it clicked. I just couldn't believe this young man had achieved his dream. I knew he was destined for greatness.

 I couldn't be more happier

for JR and his business

partner Sherwin Gishey for

bringing their visions to

fruition in seeing the

reality of their brand

unfold. We had a great

time catching up on old times. The photo session was a hot one. Model Trina is, well what can I say except, she knows how to do her job.

The clothing is well made and definitely

tailored to the woman's body. Playful,

sexy, avant garde stylings that make me

want each and every

piece. Let the pics tell the

story.

Here's a closer look at Suite JSG...

 1.   DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE DESIGNER?

Currently Jean Paul Gautier & his last collection, Zhandra Rhodes, Halston, Vivienne Westwood. We’re always watching Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, and Commes De Garcons. We are also discovering European designers through Vogue Italia and Vogue Paris, as well as fresh, new up & coming designers.

2.   DID EITHER OF YOU HAVE FASHION DREAMS OR ASPIRATIONS AS A CHILD?  IF SO, DO SHARE.

Sherwin:  My interest in fashion started with me watching my mother sew.  It was when I was 5 or 6 years old.  It’s funny; I remember standing at the edge of our kitchen table, wearing only a maroon/purple velvet shirt, underwear, and moccasins, waiting for my mom to finish up the hems of the white pant to my outfit.  It was Native American Day and I was in a float along with my head start class.  I remember, from start to finish, how she whipped up a pair of pants; that was when and where I fell in love with sewing.  From there, I started with small projects like pillow and making doll clothes for my sister’s dolls.  My mom walked me through the process laying out patterns and cutting fabric, eventually using her sewing machine.  After that, it became second nature.  I taught  myself how to sew, no formal training, no books.  In 2010, I joined the fashion program at Phoenix College, where I’m still learning to perfect my skills.

JR: I was 6 years old when I discovered Cosmopolitan covers. The supermodels on the covers blew me away. I recall always drawing women on any paper or flat surface I could find. I never really told anyone that I liked to draw fashion and that fashion models interested me. There was no outlet for me to express this creativity so I kept it to myself. I didn’t have access to fashion, lights & models but I was so intrigued (lol). My first job was at a professional art store in downtown Flagstaff when I was 9 years old. The owner noticed I was there almost every day trying out various new pens & markers. She gave me the task of sweeping out the front outside door entrance & my payment was a miniature Prism pencil and paper set. I grew up in the 80’s so MTV, art, people and life inspired me. I was fascinated by the model Margeaux Hemingway. She was beautiful, exciting and always laughing and dancing. Her life seemed to be a 24 hour disco, which totally fascinated me & influenced my art.

3.   WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE DREAM FOR SUITE JSG?

Of course, to keep making quality garments.  Along with that, swimwear/pool loungewear, there is also a fragrance test in the works.  The ultimate dreams are to be a high end label, a Suite JSG boutique or two with an in-house design studio, to possibly attract investors & to possibly go global.

4.  WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU WANT TO CONVEY WITH YOUR CLOTHING LINE?

Modern sophistication, subtle sex appeal, fashion forward confidence.
,

5.   WHAT, IF ANY, EXPERIENCES IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY DO EITHER OF YOU HAVE?

Sherwin: I’m currently in the fashion design program at Phoenix College but no professional experience yet.

JR: No, this is my first venture into the scene; my passion has always been art, models & fashion.

6.   WHAT MATTERS TO YOU MOST AS A DESIGNER?

Individuality, quality well-made clothes, client business & satisfaction.

7.   AS A CURVY GIRL MYSELF, WILL YOU OFFER YOUR CLOTHING LINE IN PLUS SIZE FASHIONS?

Yes, we offer private consultations & fittings. It is our philosophy that every woman is beautiful and that fashion should be accessible to her. One of our clients is a fuller woman who we’ve designed custom patterns that compliment her body frame.

8.   WHO IS SUITE JSG?

Two artists who have forged a fashion collaboration based on skill, talent, style & art. ‘J’ for JR and ‘SG’ for Sherwin Gishey.  Suite meaning “We’re offering women the ‘key’ to a ‘Suite of modern, fashion forward clothes.”

9.   WITH NEW FASHIONS TRENDING AT EVERY TURN, HOW WILL SUITE JSG MAKE A STANDOUT FROM OTHER BRANDS?

By keeping up with new trends through social media, fashion blogs, films, fashion books, magazines & even street style. We also watch films from the 60’s & 70’s for ideas and inspiration.

10. IF SOMEONE WANTED TO PURCHASE SOMETHING SPECIAL FROM YOU, WHERE CAN THEY FIND YOU?

Our contact information is on Facebook as (Suite JSG); Instagram (suitejsg76); and Gmail at (suitejsg@gmail.com).

11. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE SO FAR?

      1) Being male designers we sometimes are underestimated about understanding a woman’s body & style choices.

      2) Getting people to understand our style aesthetic. Alongside classic looks, we also offer different, almost avant garde pieces (for example: one sleeve tops, one legged trousers & the use of unique textiles.)

What can I say, I love these guys. The passion that courses through their veins when it comes to fashion is unreal. I hope all our readers will check out Suite JSG on Facebook and give them a shout out. I truly expect to see more from JR and Sherwin in the near, very near, future. Please feel free to posts some comments below and let us know what you think. Another big hand clap to Suite JSG for blessing us with new, haute, fashion-forward couture. Well done, fellas!

FashionsTo Help A New Life

Lead Singer The Optimystics
by Toy Taylor [RECAP] I love when I come across an organization who helps with the betterment of families in need. What I love even more are the people who come together collectively to share in the betterment of the families in need. I saw that at the Fashion For New Life Center 3 red carpet event. Held at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Litchfield, Arizona (yeah, give it up for the Westside!) the show benefited an incredible issue that needs awareness. Domestic violence.

The New Life Center advocates for women and children fleeing domestic violence situations. At the New Life Center they will receive comprehensive care and counseling through programs with qualified professionals. Families receive help with everyday needs such as clothing, bedding and food seeing how many are fleeing their negative situation. The New Life Center is truly a safe haven for women and children.

With that said, established and aspiring designers, models, and local entertainment came together for one heck of a night of fashion. Here's the rundown on the runway...

SUITE JSG: What a super fun edgy line. Lots of

glittery bling going on. I’m not sure of the material

but the gold lume fabric was hot! The short sexy

cocktail dresses were cut nice giving lots of

movement while not clinging to the body. The

shiny see-thru look was super sexy! It made for

quite the stylish look. Not gaudy at all. The

pant/shorts combo was the extreme avant garde

look. Leather shrug to evening wear makes this

fashion forward collection quite desirable.

SEVEN EIGHTY SIX

This collection rocked

one of my favorite

colors on the

runway…olive green. Rich, regal and delicious. The

soft jacquard-like print set the

tone just right. This brand screams femininity

across the board. I would totally purchase every piece in this collection.

My favorite piece was the white dress with

the yellow tulle skirt, and the best part is it has

flower petals all over it. So stinkin' girly! I loved

it!

VSLZ FASHUN GROUP: Designer Amber Collins

attests her clothing line is “glorifying God

through fashion”. Praise was spoken loud and

clear for all us fashionistas. Stylishly modern

apparel that appeals to the everyday woman.

Maxi dress with the high-waisted belt made the

trendy look very

contemporary.

It was comfy chic in a rich deep earthy tone. The use of mixed textures took this

fashion forward line to new heights. The leather cutouts made me think of paper

cutouts we did as a child. I love love LOVED the skull head wraps worn! They

accentuated the look magnificently. This collection makes a statement loud and

clear.

I have to give a serious shout out to the band The Optimystics for keeping the

crowd grooving in their seats. It was pretty cool seeing a runway show set to live
music. This husband and wife duo was completely n’sync with one another. Even

when the runway lagged they didn’t skip a beat. I would definitely hire them for my

next event.

The beautiful Divine brought to the stage an expressively deep and prolific poetry.

The spoken word is good anytime anywhere.

The models got the chance to work the catwalk in

any way they wanted. Oh my did attitudes fly high.

These ladies were WOR-KING IT! But the young lady

who wowed the crowd was 14 yr old Miss Lyric

Saylor. Her diva-like attitude blazed on the runway,
Model Lyric Saylor

which earned her

the ‘Best Walk”. I

will keep my eye

on Lyric Saylor.

This will not be the last time we see

her on the runway.

Brian Kohatsu

Comedian Brian Kohatsu entertained us with his off-the-cuff humor. He was pretty funny. He knew how to keep the crowd laughing.

Aspiring Designer winner Kathleen Tinkler

Karla Medina has found

her path in the fashion

mecca with her

exceptional

headdresses.

Large, colorful, uniquely-

shaped art for your

head. That’s the best way I can describe it. I saw

chandelier style head piece that was simply jaw

dropping. I'm seeing such a trend in head wear this

year. I'm thinking it's a must-have addition to my

wardrobe.

Just beautiful.

Hues of Ego

It was an awesome surprise to see these 3 young

designers again….

I know their lives have been quite busy since their

Phoenix Fashion Week debut, so it was great

seeing them again on the runway for such a

worthy cause.

Hues of Ego

Natasha's Hues of Ego once again showed us

what couture looks like on the runway. Bold,

striking, unleashing of any inhibitions you may

have. I love this collection!

Kismit

Kismit

Kismit

Kismit gave the crowd fierce sexy-ness with her strong

lines and body hugging pieces that craved our

attention. Kismit's style is for that confident modern

woman looking to make things happen. Hot collection!

Lillienne Lang

Lillienne Lang showed a much softer side of

her line. The long empire waist gown was

simply ethereal. I felt a soothing flow as it

graced the runway. I was quite impressed with

the softer look all while keeping the European

feel to it. Lillienne keeps

Big hand clap to all 3 Phoenix Fashion Week

designers!

What a great night of runway, especially when it is serving a good cause. The New

Life Center will surely benefit from the packed house. Raffle prizes and the silent

auctions were showing a lot of activity. I definitely look forward to seeing more

from these designers in the future. Please take a moment and check out the New

Life Center website. A little or a lot, everything helps. Enjoy!
