The Seed of Consequences, Latest Feature Film from MindSteam Films

"The Seed of Consequences" was completed in the fall of 2021 and has experienced some great success since the initial private screening for cast and crew in September 2021 at the Harkins Tempe Marketplace Theatres. The film has been selected by the Miami Indie Film Awards, Toronto Film and Script Awards, Chandler Film Festival, New York Independent Cinema Awards, and Roma Film Festival.

The film boasts a solid cast and the integration and use of Spanglish language brings authenticity to the lead characters background and helps to demonstrate the influences from culture they live in and helps to develop and deepen the experience of the characters.

MindSteam Films promotes independent film projects focused on compelling stories driven by characters finding their way through life's challenges ranging from the everyday to paranormal. The director of the the feature film is looking forward to the next phase of marketing, sales, and distribution as the film is completed and ready for release once the appropriate markets are identified.

LOGLINE: Desperate to save his relationship with his son, Ramon finds that his past ways threaten to destroy those he loves most.

SYNOPSIS: Trying to escape his past history of violence, Ramon faces new challenges as he deals with his inner impulses. While trying to salvage his relationship with his son, Umberto, his wife, Maria, files for divorce threatening to block Ramon from seeing Umberto. After Ramon’s recent loss of his job forces him to to seek desperate options, he succumbs to a woman’s offer for help. While initially resisting her plan, he finds his violent ways are too much to overcome which set in motion unexpected consequences.

T Severe, Ph.D. - Writer/Director/Producer

Tony, “T” Severe, is a Phoenix-based filmmaker who has had films place in local and international film festivals. His storytelling focuses on compelling narratives driven by characters navigating their way through life’s challenges. As a filmmaker he actively promotes gender and ethnic diversity in all his projects. His current project, The Seed of Consequences, was specifically developed to highlight the contribution of Hispanic actors.

Tony also serves as a Board Member of Phoenix Screenwriters Association, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to educating screenwriters. In addition, he is a past board member of AzFDMC (Arizona Film and Digital Media Coalition) and has served on the advisory board to the Scottsdale Community College School of Film + Theater and been a speaker at various film events.

Prior to his filmmaking career, Tony was a psychologist and has served as Adjunct Faculty teaching at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, Grand Canyon University and South Mountain Community College. He brings his background of counseling thousands of families into the story development of The Seed of Consequences.

To Present Lifetime Achievement Award to Lee Meriwether

Laughlin NV, October 1, 2015 --- The organizers of the 2015 Laughlin International Film Festival (LIFF), which is scheduled to be held October 15th – 18th in Laughlin, NV, are very proud to announce that Lee Meriwether will be the recipient of the first LIFF Lifetime Achievement Award.

Meriwether, who began her acting career in the mid-1950s, has appeared in an impressive line-up of films and television series over the last 5 decades. She is best remembered for her role as Catwoman in “Batman: The Movie” (1966). In 1973-1980 she was also a regular in the popular series “Barnaby Jones” in which she played Betty Jones, the secretary and daughter-in-law of Barnaby Jones (played by the late Buddy Ebsen). She is also remembered for her role as Lily Munster in the television series “The Munsters Today” (1988 - 1991), and her role as Ruth Martin in the popular soap opera “All My Children” (1996-2011). She was nominated twice for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress (Drama) and once for an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress (Drama). In addition to her illustrious film career, Meriwether also held the titles of “Miss San Francisco” (1954), “Miss California” (1954) and “Miss America” (1955).

“We are so honored and proud to be able to give this award to Lee Meriwether”, said Mara Karsen, LIFF co-founder and Executive Director. “We have wanted to establish a LIFF Lifetime Achievement Award for the past 3 years, and now we are finally seeing it become a reality. Having someone as impressive at Lee Meriwether to receive this first award is very exciting, and will be the highlight of our LIFF Awards Ceremony this year”. The LIFF Awards Ceremony will be held at the Tropicana Pavilion Theater on Saturday, October 17^th, at 8:00 PM (preceded by social hour at 7:00 PM). This gala event is open to the public and everyone is invited to join in the celebration. Tickets can be purchased online ($20.00) at: www.laughlinfilmfestival.com

As a supporter of independent films, Meriwether has recently lent her acting talents to the feature film “Sunny in the Dark”, directed by Courtney Ware of Texas, which will be screening at the Laughlin Stadium 9 theaters as part of LIFF’s line-up of films. “Sunny in the Dark” is an intriguing film about a reclusive family therapist Jonah (played by Jay Huguley, “12 Years A Slave”) craving solitude, who moves into a new loft only to find that he is not the only person living in the same space. A young homeless girl, Sunny (Hannah Ward) secretly lives in the crawlspace above him and watches his every move in order to survive. In the film, Lee Meriwether plays the role of Jonah’s mother, Dorothy.

“Sunny in the Dark” has recently won awards at the Northeast Film Festival in Teaneck, New Jersey for “Best Director” (Courtney Ware), “Best Actress” (Hannah Ward), Best Actor (Jay Huguley) and a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Lee Meriwether. A Best Actress award was also awarded to Hannah War at the Hill Country Film Festival in Fredericksburg, Texas. The film will be shown at the Laughlin International Film Festival on Friday, October 16th, at 5:30 PM, with Meriwether, the films’ director Courtney Ware, and the films’ producer Meredith Burke in attendance. Tickets will be available at the LIFF Sales table, located in front of the theaters, beginning on Thursday, October 15th, at 9:00 AM. ($10.00, $8 for students/seniors). There will also be an encore screening of the film on Sunday, October 18^th, at 6:45 (without cast and crew in attendance).

5 things first-timers found useful at the San Diego Comic-Con

"Wow, its so big."

That's what she said. And that's what he said, too. A lot of people said it.

Comic-Con International: San Diego 2015, with the Convention center in the Marina district as the nucleus, was like a giant living entity. Its reach could be seen throughout the Marina district and into the adjacent Gaslamp Quarter. The sheer magnitude of it all could easily overwhelm a first-timer, but here are several things about Comic-Con 2015 that made it easier.

1) The free giant tote bag that doubles as a backpack was a godsend

You may think this is a peculiar item to be listed number one on a list of things that made things easier for first-timers at Comic-Con International. But it really was the answer to many questions for an attendee. You bought this cool, rare toy and don't know where to put it til you get back to the hotel? You're in your cargo shorts and comfy sneakers but want to go out on the town later that evening but don't want to go back to the hotel just to change into your dress-to-impress wear? Have a sandwich and a bottle of water but certainly don't want to be holding both as you peruse the items in the exhibition hall?

The answer: free giant tote bag that doubles as a backpack.

Oh, did I mention that these are collector's items? Yup, these aren't just some generic tote that Comic-Con passes out year after year. Nope, the designs on them are exclusive to the 2015 Comic-Con. Now, we're not advocating that anybody turn around and sell these totes as collector's items, but we can't stop them if they did. Just remember that San Diego Comic-Con handed you it as soon as you picked up your badge, for free.

2) Comic-Con was well-staffed and they were easily recognizable

Event staff members were everywhere. All of them were friendly and knowledgeable. And they wore very distinguishable yellow-and-black uniforms. Which was wonderful because a typical first-timer had a lot of "How do I get to... ?" and "Where is... ?" questions. There's few feelings worse when you're a rookie to a big event than to be looking for somebody to help you and not knowing who to look for.

3) Trolley service

A San Diego metropolitan transit system (MTS) trolley could drop off a first-timer practically on the doorstep of the convention center. First-timers could even get the free MTS mTicket app and purchase tickets from their phone, which made for one less thing to worry about. The MTS website even had a page devoted to providing information specific to attendees of Comic-Con.

4) The bars and restaurants

First-timers often need to step away from it all for a bit to recharge and regroup. But there was no need to go all the way back to the hotel. Most restaurants and bars in the Gaslamp Quarter have front patio areas. So, an attendee could relax without feeling like they were missing out on all the fun sights and sounds of the Comic-Con experience. And if a first-timer needed directions? Hosts and hostesses were great for that.

5) The attendees

And, lastly, the attendees themselves. Comic-con has a fun, festive atmosphere about it. And many are veterans of Comic-Con and will gladly answer a quick question about which direction to go in order to find the nearest restrooms.

If you ever plan on going to the San Diego Comic-con, here are a few tips for you:

1) Good communication

Cell phone reception isn't the greatest inside the convention center, so always communicate clearly with others in your party about where you'll be and when and where you'll meet up. Even something as simple as, "hey guys, I'm going to the bathroom. I'll meet you at that booth with all the Transformers" will go a long way to ensuring everybody's whereabouts are accounted for.

2) Prepare to walk a lot

That means proper footwear and plenty of water. If you're in a costume, find the best compromise between achieving the proper look and comfort.

3) You can't see everything

Yes, there will be some decisions to make. Now, just because you can't see it all doesn't mean you can't see a lot. Because you will definitely see a lot. So, focus on all that you do experience instead of whatever you may have to miss.
